Well, I explored the touristic area of Old Town (Stare Miasto), then a good part of the green areas of the pollish capital... What else to do: Let's just walk, on the streets, without a specific target. Let's see the normal city :)!

From my accomodation (on Żurawia) I cross Marszałkowska boulevard and continue to the end of the street I live on. I continue on Poznańska (easy to guess, the name comes from the northern city of Poznan) and then on sw. Barbary (St. Barbara) I see some statues in the back of Skwer Batalionu AK "Zaremba-Piorun" building. In front we can see Sf. Barbara catholic church (Parafia rzymskokatolicka św. Barbary) which I pass on the right. Very few people around here. It is true that it is saturday and people relax at home or they are out of the city! On Wspólna I reach Tytusa Chałubińskiego boulevard, cross it and continue on Wojciecha Oczki heading to a red, high tower that I saw for some time. It belongs to Filtry Warsawskie, the water filtering station of the city. It looks like a bunker area, it is guarded and I have to bypass it. From internet I find that there are some expositions and museums.  I pass it on the left, go on the other side on Filter street (Filtrowa) and pass Zieleniec Wielkopolski park. With winter and leaves fallen, it looks abandoned! On the other part I follow a passage over Wawelska boulevard and find myself near football field III Ogrod Jordanovski where I see a dog trainer with a group of dogs and owner came for training. At the corner of the green area one can read about the pilgrimages of Ryszard Kapuscinski in Eurasia. Interesting! Later I realize I am in Ochota area of Pole Mokotowskie park where I have been yesterday. I will pass it and continue with my urban exploration.

I enter through a small gate on an alley/path in an area with birches, a very fine area with holiday/weekend houses in the heart of the city. There are small, wooden, 1-3 rooms houses with very nice gardens. I walk a lot between them because the alleys are public and the gardens are private (you can't enter!) and exit in the SW corner to another green area. It is the park that surround the soviet military cemetery! I have time to admire the order and the cleaness of the place and I am surprised of a very few names on the graves. It is possible of not being re-occupied after the initial ones... From the front of the mausoleum I exit on Żwirki i Wigury, cross and among alleys and blocks I find other small parks. At the only one open shop I find some apples and a bag of romanian dog corn snacks (pufuleți)! The cheapest ones from Romania! It is a joy to see something written in you native language (do you remember when I saw Uzupis constitution in romanian in Vilnius!). I eat some snacks (pufuleți) on the way home. The map tells me that I have to follow Żwirki i Wigury to center. I shouldn't forget about the small park Zaslaw Malicki (Park im. Malickiego (d. Nowickiego)) where the water is still frozen and some ducks enjoy the only unfrozen water mirror!

On the way home I see on the right a big, lighted restaurant in american style. They call it Jeff's. Initially I just want to see what it is about. It looks like a tipical western restaurant, with a lot of people, screens with football games, diverse people, enogh and not too much noise, smiling waitresses dressed in mexican style. Let's enjoy and eat something, it is time! I have no reservation and get a round table close to the bar, order a huge plate with meat, potatoes, ananas, a spicy sause fajita and a beer. At least enjoy it, Cezar! You find the menu here, it is in pollish and I guarantee that the nice girls know english very good! And the atmosphere is everything :D!

Fully, I continue on Żwirki i Wigury, reach the back of the water station on Andrzeja Krzyckiego, continue to plac/cross Zawiszky and on Aleje Jerozolimskie reach my home. Satisfied again with the unexpected walking! At the end you see my distance to home!

I eat once again at my egyptian-arabian restaurant (a yogurt and something sweet) and prepare my tomorrow. Because I finnished to see Warsaw, I head to Krakow. I make a bus reservation on polskibus.com for tomorrow at 8.00 (34 PLN). The only thing is that I have the bus from the bus station at Dworzec Metro Wilanowska, ul. Pulawska 145 (arrival at Malopolski Dworzec Autobusowny, ul. Bosacka 18 after 5 hours) and for this I have to walk about 1.5 hours in the morning! So I change my clothes and go to sleep. I will leave in the very morning! Before going to sleep I enjoy a talk with two very fine indians in the kitchen!

As any traveler willing for green, today I try to explore the parks of Warsaw. I wake up late and start my walk around noon. From accomodation I go down on Marszałkowska to platz Zbawiciela. It is a large boulevard, similar to the ones from home, with more or less repaired buildings. I read some of the history of the square (there is a historic panel in most of the important squares) and let on the left the streets that would take me to Łazienki Królewskie park. I promise myself to go there later because there seem to be a lot of places to see! I let the Church of Holy Savior (Kościół Najświętszego Zbawiciela) on the left, partially in reconstruction and go on Mokotowska to Politehnika metro station and Mokotow field Józef Piłsudski park. It was an airport here! Details after a few images ;)!

The park was arranged in 1970-1980 on the space of the former Mokotow airport and split in two parts (Śródmieście - Civic Center - and Ochota). The two parts are united by a pedestrian passage over aleja Niepodległości. It was a military or cavalry training center, airport, hangars and factory halls area, sport flight and zeppelin area. In 1930 the airport was closed and moved to Okęcie and the park was begun after the funerals of Józef Piłsudski in 1935. I pass the monument of the pollish cavalry and, by the underground structure, reach the passage that takes me to Ochota. I want to see the Happy Dog statue and among other monuments and on Batorego street and other small streets I reach Belwederski palace from the above mentioned park. As observation I passed Puławska street at one moment! No linguistic connection with the romanian words :D!

From the palace front I turn left to enter Łazienki Królewskie park and stop for a few seconds in front of Józef Piłsudski statue, a big personality of Poland history, first marchal (from 1920), minister of defence, state chief (1918-1922) and leader de facto (1926-1935) of the Second Pollish Republic.

The park is huge and has some touristic objectives: the museum, the statue and the bench of Chopin, the statue of Henric Sienkiewicz, The White Pavilion (Biały Domek), Royal Łazienki park old Orangery, The Japanese Pavilion, Łazienki palace (Pałac na Wyspie, Palace on the Isle) and the amfitheater, The Museum of Hunting and Horsemanship, The Museum of Carriages, Myślewicki palace (Pałac Myślewicki), the royal coat of arms (Kartusz z herbem Stanisława Augusta), the statue of Jan Sobieski III (yes, that Sobieski from ”Sobieski și românii” written by Costache Negruzzi) and Ermitage. I don't give other details, you can find them if you are curious. One important detail: the toilet near the Museum of Hunting is for free!

I exit the park and walk on Kusocińskiego alley between Piaseczynski channel and Wojska Polskiego stadium (Stadion Miejski Legii Warszawa im. Marszałka J. Piłsudskiego) to Czerniakowska boulevard. There is no pedestrian passing and I want initially to use the lifts for up/down of the passage. They have cameras and work only for wheelchair persons. So I go up and down on the stairs. In some way I pass the drain area of a small golf arranged for sports and on Zaruskiego I reach a cycling road to Łazienkowski bridge. I admit that I walk ilegally on the other side of the river on the cycling passage because I don't see any pedestrian posibility to walk on the bridge. I use the cycling passage to go to Praga Poludnie area. This means I am in Praga :D! So fast! On the other side of the bridge I find alleys that take me through the green area (there are some small beaches on Vistula shore) under the bridges Poniatowskiego, Średnicowy train bridge and Świętokrzyski (I let the national stadium on the right) to the port's channel which I can pass on the car bridge. I pass the bridge, let on the right the monument of Kościuszko family (Pomnik Kościuszkowców) which comemorates the attempts to help the Warsaw uprising. I want to reach a high cathedral that I saw last evening and reach it on Stefana Okrzei and Józefa Sierakowskiego streets. On the last one I find the Jewish Academic House where stood the students with no access to other dorms.

Catedrala Sf. Florian (Katedra Rzymskokatolicka Pw.

St. Florian cathedral (Katedra Rzymskokatolicka Pw. św. Floriana) was built at the end of XIX century as a form of resistance to the bug number of russian orthodox churches built under the power of duke of Warsaw. Having two 75 meters tall imposing towers, the church dominate Praga eastern district of Warsaw and was declared basilica minor in 1992. In front of the cathedral we can see the statue of chaplain Ignacy Skorupka who died in the battle of Warsaw in 1920 encouraging the soldiers with the cross in his hand on the battle field.

I only have to go back home now. I am satisfied with my today long explorations. In front of the cathedral on a corner I find a cheap self serving restaurant. It is so bad that no one knows english, the menus are only in pollish and they have no pictures. And it closes in about half an hour. So I starve a little more...

On aleja Solidarnosci and then the bridge (most, I know the word from Prague a few years ago) Śląsko-Dąbrowski I enter the old town in Old Square (Stare Miasto) where is the Column of Sigismund. From here I go down on the known Krakowskie Przedmieście, observe some buildings and statues that I missed yesterday, read something about Świętokrzyska boulevard and get close to home. I know about an egyptian restaurant close to my hostel with all kind of arabian food and eat a good plate shaorma which you can see in the last image. In the evening I check what I could do tomorrow and go to sleep. And I make reservation for three nights at Hostel Rynek 7 in Krakow! I anticipate, it will be amazing there!
