De la Jaisalmer spre est spre Bikaner 9.01.2014 from Jaisalmer to east to Bikaner

Early wake up because we have a long road today (more than 300 kilometers). The sun has just rose up and I am at Deep Mahal for breakfast. It's morning and Fatan, Little John and their nice Nepali "employee" were sleeping in the kitchen on mattresses. When I go there Fatan is almost jumping on! "Wake up and we speak after!" Little John is making the fire in a boiler, I snuggle under the blankets (it's a cold morning!) and the young Nepali boy asks for my phone. I know it's only the curiosity for music and games. He asks me about bluetooth and I don't have that. Fatan makes me a banana porridge and, before I eat it, he goes out to take the spices for me. I thought he forgot about that! We solve with money (in such places like here everything is flowing) and salute each other with brotherhood. I promise them that if I'll ever come to Jaisalmer, I'll stay here for sure! I go down to the big market inside the fort saluting once again the buildings before going out, in two big iron gates I reach the last market, visit a small temple on the left and go down after the parking place where me and Yasin set the date yesterday.

I tell him about Deep Mahal and the fort and we start our way. We go out of the city on the same way that we entered, pass the military units  (we must not forget that we are close to the Pakistani border!), follow NH 15 for 110 km to Pokhran on a good desert road (sand and dryness all over, some sand trees) and we enter the highway to Bikaner. the road is too constant for me and I will sleep for a few hours. I base on Yasin's very good Indian driver! The road is boring and Yasin tries to go fast to get ou of this zone. he doesn't seem to agree this part of the circuit!

Nu are să îmi dea 5 rupii rest.

Around 14.00 we reach Bikaner, repeat the action with the cheapest hotel at havasar Haveli known by Yasin! As usual big prices for foreigners! Yasin pays few rupees for housing and eating and sleep in the drivers' room! I don't accept the price they ask for and Yasin is not in mood for bargain. It's not working for me, he must negotiate for every 50 rupees! We find a good room at Desert Wind Hotel nearby, let the big pack in the room and go with the car to the camel farm 8 km outside of the city. Theoretically the show is better at sunset when camels come back from the desert! The locals seems like not knowing how to reach the farm and I am indignant. This is the major touristic objective for this city! Finally Yasin finds the way, we go there and we see a lot of tourists with buses, a dislike from me. I want freedom and less tourists! When I reach the entrance, I see that the entry fee is too hih for me. I am not a money thrower like other tourists! I don't enter and want just to buy some camel milk. I ask two bags (200 ml) of aromatic milk and one of raw milk (25 rupees). They don't have 5 rupees change and ask me to buy one more bag. I take that with irritation. I stress Yasin and the other drivers with this incorrectness which is a bad thing for India. they tell me that a lot of foreigners complain about that and they can do nothing about that. "Government is asking for taxes!" Fucking Government! I drink the two kinds of milk (Yasin doesn't like it) and it's not so great. It's like a raw cow milk a little more sour and bitter than usual!

We turn back to the city, yasin drops me in the city near Juganarh Fort at the roundabout for the Old Bus Station. I am in mood to wander. "Why would you do that?", any Indian could say. On the crowd Mahatma Gandhi Road I head to sunset to the old city. I pass the railway guided by the red circle from the sky, turn left on Kote Gate Road and find a little park on the left. The "urinary" tension and some messages from home, the mood dissapears and I turn back to bazaar. On the main street (Dauji/Mahatma Gandhi Road separated by one of the old city gates) I stop at a sweet store. I buy some kinds of sweets (120 rupees) and can't eat anymore after just two pieces. It's too much for my papillae! I will eat the rest in the following days!

I turn back to Juganarh Fort among stores and peddlers, drink a glass of sugar crane juice and face to the main face of the fort. It is closed (it's already dark!), pass a dancing fountain in Sursagar lake and a young man attracts me to his embroidery store. "It's next to your hotel. I will take you by bike!" "I preffer to walk, I come to your store!" On Municipal Road I reach the first roundabout and loose myself. I sit near an Indian at a boiler fire until he finishes to talk on the phone and he guides me to the stadion (near my hotel). I reach the hotel and take the dinner with Yasin at the table near the drivers' room. I am amazed that he accepted for me to enter their room which reminds me of the rooms in child camps with 8-12 parallel beds! We chat a bit and then go to sleep. We have a few interesting days in front of us!

Răsărit pe dune și plimbări prin Jaisalmer 8.01.2014 Sunrise on the dunes and wandering in Jaisalmer

Hai acolo!

Motto: "When you change yourself, you can change others"

I wake up on night (long live the alarm) and put a lot of clothes because it's cold outside. It's desert's cold, sensation I didn't felt so deep before. I get out of the hut and see Yasin outside. He is waiting to go with me! In some way I understand the over exaggerated care for my safety and I am glad that he wants to come. We drink a tea and head to the dunes (I have sneakers, not sandals like yesterday). The clouds are playing in red tail spread from est to west and up in the sky. The steps hurry to the sands because the light in stronger and stronger. I see Yasin sleepy and scared. If he wanted to come with me... I climb the dunes with energy, Yasin stays behind and tells me that he stops. "Follow me!" I start to run to catch the moment on the dune. I follow the line off the sand waves,go from one round line to another in a continuous meandering up. Thee first line of the sun has just squinted! I sit on the sand and look at the sun to absorb the wonder of his arise on the sky. I see Yasin on my steps and I am glad that he lives the moment. He reaches me, we congratulate, he plays some musicon the phone and we admire the shadows and the lights longing or shortening on the soft curves of the pale sand. We go down to the village between dolines and ridges of sand and at the funeral monuments I see on the left something looking like a fort. Let's go there!

We see some drinking water wells and locals come to take water. I picture and film the flickering of water 7-8 meters below us!

We pass some thick milky leaves bushes (the liquid is used for cremes),we avoid some cows and go out to other wells and funeral monuments. They are spread all over. An Indian woman with a metallic pot on the head is passing and I must take a picture. Yasin tells her my origin and the woman smiles for a picture. We reach the first houses near some peacocks (the colors of the feathers show the maturity of the bird).

Yasin turns back to the hotel and I make a short tour to that "fort". It's a cemetery with a rocky fence and some fine carved funeral stones! I wander among them, take some desert stones for Raluca (my sister) and go out on the other part of the fence. I go around the cemetery near some playing kids and a herd of goats (with goaters/shepherds) and reach the asphalted road. I turn right and entering the fence of the hotel (rare stone sticks) I reach the court. Yasin was washing his car. I take my breakfast as a king alone in the  middle of the court. It looks too lonely and I pass over this very fast. With all the thanks, paying of the services and a little tip, we go back on the road we came  and then reach Jaisalmer.

I tell Yasin that I don't stay in a hotel and I want to search and stay at Deep Mahal, the guest house Laurence recommended me. He is not ok with this and accepts it. "If you are happy, I am happy!" He stys in the parking under the fort, I take the small pack and start to search the guest house. I ask some people and find it fast. At the beginning they tell me that they have only expensive rooms and I don't want to stay. I want a cheap room. Fatan, one of the owner brothers, takes me to Desert's Girl Guest House over the street. They have a room that fits me. I let my trousers for sewing in the first floor store and when I want to pay, I realize that my wallet is in the car. The host gives me the key hoping to come with the money. I do this and go to the car to take the wallet. I let the big pack in the car (I told that I have only the small pack), pay the money to the owner and go up to Deep Mahal. "I prayed the god for you to come!"

Before the tea and the rajasthani thali, I browse my guide and doze in the sun. Perfect for a traveler! No hurry, full freedom! I eat peacefully and start in a small walk on the narrow streets of the inhabited fort. I can't tell you exactly the streets, it's good to just wander. I go up on the ramparts, I am stopped in a silk store by the seller who leaves and come in 20 minutes with some tea from the owner, look for internet cafes, go up to the oldest cannon of the city, walk on steep windy small streets, find a spice store and tell them that I try to come tomorrow morning to take some spices, go up on suspended terraces and see Gadisar lake in whorls of wind... It looks like a sand storm...

Let's go down to the lake. I find some streets that take me out of the fort and go down on the bazaar-streets to the round road Gadisar Road. I pass the road and on the way up to the harbor I see a blind woman ("buman" as Yasin says) in a trolley. I know beggars and usually I am not impressed. But this woman stopped me. It's like my grandma how I remember her in her last years. Not the color of the skin, not the clothes, not the trolley, not the request for money. Her empty orbits, as grandma has one because she lost one eye because of cataract and not its dispersal to the other eye! I put some rupees (bancnotes) in her hand and I feel the warm of her hand and her voice. I don't understand what she says, but I feel her thanking from her soul!

In the wind I go clockwise around Gadisar lake. Among big black crows I go down on the planted terraces to the lake, give some rupees to two boys and take a picture with them, continue on the shore to an isthmus and start to take pictures to the evening lights. near a house a local was sitting next to his fire and fed some pigeons.

Through a private neighborhood I reach the big street and go up to the city. It's night and the city is different! I refuse to pay more than needed for a bottle of water and enter the fort looking for an internet cafe. Until I find one, I try to enter a Hindi church. I am not allowed because they are praying! In an internet cafe close to the hotel (30 rupees/hour) I stay about two hours to send messages and read news from home. A little mouse is passing on the books (it's also a book store and tea house here) and beg the owners not to kill him. "We are just taking him far away for not coming back". I am blocked by the decision of a dear friend who left to France/Paris before New Year. Hard decision for a lover of Romania and Romanians! We must never forget that everyone has his own way and if something happens, it's because of the personal way, as hard or easy it might be! I to Deep Mahal up for the dinner. Before eating (I feel like home where people are open like me) I talk to two Dutches about travels, food and and a skating Dutch big contest on canals and lakes when water freezes. We eat together and we retreat to sleep. I asked Fatan about spices and he promised that he will take me some tomorrow morning.
