Plimbare prin Jodhpur 6.01.2014 Wandering in Jodhpur

Because we met last evening (two world travelers), we talk about a walk in the city. It's very strange for Indians to see a man and a woman walking together without being a (married) couple. Why would we care what others think especially when they have a totally different social system as we are used with and a different way of thinking?

We don't correlate in the morning for a few minutes of yoga and after the breakfast we go out in the city. Although Laurence is staying for a few days in Jodhpur, I offer myself as a "guide" to the fort. We enter for a few minutes in the court of the expensive hotel Pal Haveli. "You'll see a lot of gardens like this in Jaisalmer", Laurence tells me. She came from that direction! On narrow streets (other than yesterday) we reach the football playground. I want to go on right from the stairs. Laurence went there and it wasn't interesting for her. So we go up on the stairs and reach the artesian as yesterday.

Instead of the rocky stairs we follow the car road to the fort. After a few tens of meters we see on the right Jaswant Thada, the cenotaph built by maharajah Sardar Singh in 1899 for the memory of his father, maharajah Jaswant Singh. On the way to the cenotaph we pass the equestrian statue of Rao Jodha Ji, the founder of the city. We don't want to pay the fee to the cenotaph and we admire on a terrace a part of the city and one of the Rao Jodha rock desert park. The park is laying here and in the part where i were last night. That part is touristic with paths and arrows in different colors. Before the entrance Laurence tells me about the temple from the mountain on our right. It is similar to Savitri temple from Pushkar!

We enter the red path, stop after a few meters to play with some small dogs, continue between cacti until we meet the green path. At the cross we see two Indian women who lived in a kiosk nearby. Above us some noisy youngers "play on" tiroliana. Each one with his pleasure! We go down close to Padamasar Talab and through a protecting wall we reach Ranisar Talab. Birds on small islands, shadows, retracted waters... We follow the right shore of Padamasar Talab and go down to the dam. Some Indians cut a tree and we can't go on the dam. Laurence goes up on a steep slope and Indians tell us that it's an end road. They don't see the landscape that attracts us for a lot different photo angles. From here we understand the meaning of BLue City: a lot of house walls are painted in blue!

We find some down stairs that lead us to the high part of the dam (as stronghold railings) to some stairs which stop in the walls of the fort. Like platform 9 3/4 from "Harry Potter"! There are a lot of monkeys who scrath one to another, they care for each other and run on the stairs. We make pictures and movies with them!

On some narrow stairs we go down almost to water level ("Laurence, care for the knee"; a knee is hurting her) and we go under the fort at a temple  where an old man is resting in the sun and some workers have a break. They invite us for a tea and a small piece of opium. Interesting and no expected effects! By a big gate we go down to the city ("Wild woman" is playing with the handlebar of  bike).
Of!

Among the blue houses we wander on streets, enter the courts of the locals with cable plates for birds, small bikes covered for not being burned by bird shit, statues of Shiva colored on houses, visits and pictures in havelis and schools... We go out to a big market and on the left in the crowd we discover a black sweets factory! Unique chance to see this! We make pictures and movies, we participate for production and they can't sell us sweet only in the stores below where everything is so expensive. Of!

We wander on the streets (tobacco leaves on seen, merchants, clothes, metallic pots, shoes)... At one temple on the right Laurence's camera battery is over and I will make some pictures for her.

In some way we reach the Clock Tower market. Laurence is hungry and asks me if I want to eat something. She takes me to a place down to the railway station and we enjoy the food. On small streets parallel to the main crowd street we reach the bazaar, walk around to some friends and buy something with small amount of money (some trousers for me and a skirt long-wished for Laurence) and I have an idea: let's make a fruit salad to the people from the hotel. As a surprise! It suits by chance! We take some fruits (pineapple, mango, papaya, oranges), drink a glass of sugar crane juice (two for me!), look for a towel for Laurence (all are expensive) and go to the hotel. We don't have enough bananas and I go down to take one more pack of bananas. In the restaurant they are hardly working: i'ts the birthday of a friend of the owner! They prepare dal and chapati (a lot of), we take a big bowl and cut the fruits in my room. We hear a "Happy birthday!" and go up on the terrace! It's the moment of a birthday cake and dance! With all the people from the hotel including two shy Portugueses from a separate table! We go down and finish the salad and all are amazed when we go back up with the bowl of salad! We put it in a fridge and it eat later as a dessert! They love it because they are not used to eat this (we are also happy about it and enjoy it). We stay on the terrace and talk about everything in a nice ambient till midnight. Laurence chooses to sleep in the room next to mine for free. They say that the season is almost over!

I'd write just a few words but there's a lot to say! Ok, I try to shorten it and ask me more when we meet :D!

Because it's the only hotel where we have to check-out at 10.00, we eat breakfast and put the baggage in the car at this hour. Yasin propose me a visit in town and then drive to Ranakpur. We go down in a parking near Swaroop Sagar (the name is just for finding the name on Google Maps) and from here he recommends me to go on the small streets to Bagor Ki Haveli and City Palace. I remember only the second name and start on the pointed street (Silavat Vari Road). I see a post with Yoga and think about Ari and I'm not let to think to much. A gate takes me to the shore of the lake on a small platform-ghat. I go to the first bridge with Brahmpol Road and enter the narrow street full of stores with miniature paintings (well-known for Udaipur). The son of a artisan invites me in the store to see the products and I refuse to buy. I will some regret moments later, these are some fine cheap gifts!

On a small street I am attracted by a gate-ghat where some Indian women wash their clothes near a big sleeping cow! I would take some pictures, but the respect doesn't let me do it! I turn back and enter to Bagor Ki Haveli (ticket for 50 rupees and no pictures, another extra-ticket; yeah, really!). I visit the armory hall, then the wedding hall, go up to the first floor to turban exposition, singing instruments exposition, royal rooms and a museum of dolls, at the second floor I go out on the terrace and admire a corner of lake Pishola, in the museum and on the terraces I am fascinated by the painted windows and the atmosphere created... All the money worth for the visit!

I head up to City Palace between miniature paintings and a lot of stores with noisy merchants. The entrance fee seems to big for me and enter without paying through Bara Pol (the main gate) guarded by two big turns. In my front I have Tripolia gate (three arches) and on the left i see the eight Toranas white marble gates. i don't go further and turn back to the street. After 25-30 meters I go up on the left on some marble stairs to a temple not visited by tourists. I let my shoes at the entrance and make a clockwise tour. An Indian tries to explain me all the sculptures. "No, thanks, I understand what is here!" He gaves up after some time (I don't know if he understood that I'm not paying him). There are sculptures of different dancing positions goddesses and a lot of tantra positions. So many and the temple is so high that makes you feel like a pygmy near these walls! I thank in my mind when I go out, go down to the roundabout from Jagdish Temple (the most touristic temple of Udaipur dedicated to Vishnu) and I'm not attracted with it. I am attracted by a Jain temple presented by his guardian, a family brahman. He doesn't let me take pictures inside. As much is white outside, as much is colored on inside (small blue and green mirrors and statues of gods)! I go out of the temple and find a small street that takes me to Silavat Vari Road close to a walking bridge. I follow this bridge guarded by two circular gates (only two men can pass at one time) to the small peninsula between Swaroop Sagar and Pichola. On a lateral alley of Brahmpol Road a pass near Mahila Mandal Prathamik School and go back to the parking on Brahmpol Road. I stop before the parking , drink a masala tea and eat two samosas.

"Oh, my god! E periculos!

We turn back on the bridge we came by car (after a picture with three turns on the other side of the lake).and yasin founds the streets to reach Fateh Sagar dam. The street on the shore of Fateh Sagar is closed for auto traffic. In the parking Yasin waits for me to go on the dam and back! I feel like being in the eastern Venice. So many lakes, so many dams! As a proof of passing the dam, I take a picture with Fateh Balaji temple and on my way back I go down to Vibhuti park under the dam. Colored flowers, silence, cut grass... There is jungle under the park and you imagine that it attracts me. So I go on the shore of some cultivated lands and pass the jungle under the dam. With a visible T-shirt, I am observed by Yasin from the parking place. "Oh, my god! It's dangerous! Come up" "As soon as I find a solution to!" I climb some forgiveven dirty stairs and in the parking I tell Yasin "Now you know Cezar :D!" We go up in the car and start our journey.

The road is very fine in the desert, I make a movie for a few minutes, Yasin plays Muslim music as background on his phone and we are fascinated by the landscape. Although he had been here for some times! On a small break under a mango tree I see a fountain where they take out water in some metallic buckets using a circular animal traction movement. A boy wants 20 rupees to pull the wheel for me to see the mechanism. As I'm not an engineer to understand the principle!

The next stop is Harmony restaurant. You can eat as much as you want for 290 rupees! And you have to choose: chapati, local sauce pickel, rajasthani pasta, potatoes (alu), mix vegetables, lentils (dal), rice and rajasthani chips. It is a true harmony! So much silence, huge red or orange flowers bushes. Only the drivers eat at another table and this is a part of Indian harmony. Before paying, I make a digestive walk around the restaurant. Because the harmony is not only in one place, is in everything that surrounds that place! Lakes, desertic plants, local paths, monkeys, wet valleys, left houses... Everything is perfectly resonant! I turn back to the restaurant in harmony, drink another tea from the owner  and we continue the road to Ranakpur.

"Oh, my God!" din nou :D!

Before reaching the small resort, Yasin stops on the left and gives some cakes to monkeys. Monkeys who enter with their whole hand in the car to take other cakes. "Oh, my god!" again :D! We stop at a small Jain temple under construction (on the left of the road close to a lake), continue for a few kilometers and stop at the hotel that Yasin knows. As usual I have to bargain with the owner for the cheapest room. I don't need more! I set myself and Yasin offers himself as a guide to the dam. It's a place hi likes a lot. We go up on the other side of the road in a jungle zone, reach a house and change a few words with the poor family (materialistic, rich in soul!) and reach Ranakpur dam. On the right shore we try to reach the second dam (I incite Yasin). We find an impossible to pass shore and turn back for both safety. The sound of sunset, the possibility to see crocodiles, the rustling and the chirp around take us to the locals' house. We talk with them for some time (signs and a few words), I give them 100 rupees and a long sleeves blouse (with some sweat) and we fix the morning for guiding for the sunrise. We turn to the hotel and the silence of the forest attracts me. So I turn back to search worth my headlamp some paths to the top of the right mountain (for the morning sunrise). I discover some paths, reach the dam again, climb a part of the left mountain and turn to the locals at the family fire. The wife shows me the blouse on her her body and they invite me fot a tea and for a biri cigarette. I don't usually smoke but they worth and I can't refuse them. A little choked, a little coughed, I smoke a cigarette, thank them, on the way to the hotel I record some minutes with the sound of night jungle and I go to the dam of the other lake. Go to sleep because you'll wake up early in the morning!
