De la Orașul Albastru (Jodhpur) spre dunele deșertului (Khuri) 7.01.2014 From the blue City (Jodhpur) to the desert dunes (Khuri)

In the morning (time is going slower) we meet on the terrace for yoga (me and Laurence). As each of us is making the moves that he/she feels (in yoga concentration is made to inner body), we'll next meet (me, Laurence and Yasin) at the breakfast. Yasin want to go to Jaisalmer in the driest part of Rajasthan. We finish all the technical details (food, housing, names of the singers from last nights; two days ago Anoushka Shankar reappeared in my mind) and we go down to the car. Laurence is staying a little more because she waits for some gypsies to go with them in the world. After a few days I will receive an email from her telling me that she is in Pushkar for some dancing courses! We hug each other and start our travel. Laurence is going to the cows on the street to feed them with the organic rest from the fruits. She advised me not to go to Khuri because it is too touristic and commercial (all is in fact as you want to be) and she gave me some informations about Deep Mahal, a very fine guest house from Jaisalmer fort.

The road is long and we are going to west to Pakistan. We won't pass the border, we'll just go close to it! In Pathankot I was also close to Pakistan border. Yasin drives fast and after Pokran we stop on a good desert road. We saw on the left a big herd of camels. It's not the first time when I see them and I still feel an attraction. I head to the camels resting on the sand, the camel guardian comes to me and start to tell me about them. 100 female camels, only one male, "cămil" as a friend told me some days ago and a lot of baby camels. The babies are 1,5 m high! When I go to the car, he asks money for the explanations. "Sorry, no money, thanks, you didn't tell me about money at the beginning". Yasin explains him in Hindi/Arabic why I don't give money countless.

At the next break after a bridge I go out in the desert for a walk. I am attracted by the cacti bushes, the green trees from the dry sand and the eolian mills from the other side of the road. i make a small circuit under the bridge and go back to the car.

We continue to Jaisalmer and two kilometers before the city (we see the city and the fort) we turn left to Khuri (50 km). We planned to stay here overnight, make a camel safari on the dunes and go tomorrow to Jaisalmer. Yasin doesn't understand why I don't want to ride camels. There's no logic for them that a tourist (by definition with money!) doesn't ride camels and doesn't pay. And other details that you'll read in the next lines. The idea of the animal tortured with your weight, of accepting the animal as a part of you (at etheric- causal level) is far from their level of understanding. It's good that they accept any opinion or behavior! Yasin knows a hut hotel ("hutel") of some friends. We deal for the price. They offer a package with one night of sleeping, two meals and camel safari for 1200 rupees. I obtain the price of 1000 rupees without camel safari for me. As they don't accept this, Yasin will ride the camel!

We drink a tea and start to the dunes one hour before the sunset. I hold the camels' bridle and Yasin is up on the animal. He want some picture because until now he didn't have the honor of riding and the client walking. I am obviously an unusual client! Later between some funeral monuments I take my sandals off and walk barefooted. So "strange"! He walk on sand barefooted, he refuses to ride a camel or go in a camel carriage :D! We climb the dunes and we meet a lot of clients/tourists come for the sunset. There are walking singers who try to obtain some money from two lines and beer sellers! I refuse everything because I want to be alone with the sand. Yasin, the guide and other Indians see me like a phenomena and I become the tourist of the day :D! The sun slowly falls down after the dunes in an incredible show of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet to the sky hights. Vertical rainbow, chakras' colors... The red dot is going after the black line, the line of sunset slowly chews from the sun to a small red line. And disappears! The night is coming! The clients go back to the village one by one and I want to stay. I want to read all the lines :D! Yasin is used to have patience with me. Ha has nothing to do :D! I explain him about the sand therapy, about my flat feet from childhood, about the ultraviolet waves... I don't realize if I am talking for them or only for myself :D! I go down on the dunes barefooted to the zone where the sand is too rough and there are some thorn bushes. I put my shoes to avoid stings and we go to the hotel!

We have a traditional dinner. Around the fire i talk with two New Zealands (father and son) who came for two weeks only in Rajasthan. They make the circuit in the other way and we give advice to each other. The young one is absorbed of his tablet and internet access. I talk more with the senior one! We are served with a very rich thali (a plate with a lot of dishes). I like the local noodles (cut leaves from a local small tree) and i ask more with chapati! The drink a (payed) beer and I enjoy a cognac from the house. We talk a little and go to sleep. I am decided to the the sunrise on the dunes somewhere!

Plimbare prin Jodhpur 6.01.2014 Wandering in Jodhpur

Because we met last evening (two world travelers), we talk about a walk in the city. It's very strange for Indians to see a man and a woman walking together without being a (married) couple. Why would we care what others think especially when they have a totally different social system as we are used with and a different way of thinking?

We don't correlate in the morning for a few minutes of yoga and after the breakfast we go out in the city. Although Laurence is staying for a few days in Jodhpur, I offer myself as a "guide" to the fort. We enter for a few minutes in the court of the expensive hotel Pal Haveli. "You'll see a lot of gardens like this in Jaisalmer", Laurence tells me. She came from that direction! On narrow streets (other than yesterday) we reach the football playground. I want to go on right from the stairs. Laurence went there and it wasn't interesting for her. So we go up on the stairs and reach the artesian as yesterday.

Instead of the rocky stairs we follow the car road to the fort. After a few tens of meters we see on the right Jaswant Thada, the cenotaph built by maharajah Sardar Singh in 1899 for the memory of his father, maharajah Jaswant Singh. On the way to the cenotaph we pass the equestrian statue of Rao Jodha Ji, the founder of the city. We don't want to pay the fee to the cenotaph and we admire on a terrace a part of the city and one of the Rao Jodha rock desert park. The park is laying here and in the part where i were last night. That part is touristic with paths and arrows in different colors. Before the entrance Laurence tells me about the temple from the mountain on our right. It is similar to Savitri temple from Pushkar!

We enter the red path, stop after a few meters to play with some small dogs, continue between cacti until we meet the green path. At the cross we see two Indian women who lived in a kiosk nearby. Above us some noisy youngers "play on" tiroliana. Each one with his pleasure! We go down close to Padamasar Talab and through a protecting wall we reach Ranisar Talab. Birds on small islands, shadows, retracted waters... We follow the right shore of Padamasar Talab and go down to the dam. Some Indians cut a tree and we can't go on the dam. Laurence goes up on a steep slope and Indians tell us that it's an end road. They don't see the landscape that attracts us for a lot different photo angles. From here we understand the meaning of BLue City: a lot of house walls are painted in blue!

We find some down stairs that lead us to the high part of the dam (as stronghold railings) to some stairs which stop in the walls of the fort. Like platform 9 3/4 from "Harry Potter"! There are a lot of monkeys who scrath one to another, they care for each other and run on the stairs. We make pictures and movies with them!

On some narrow stairs we go down almost to water level ("Laurence, care for the knee"; a knee is hurting her) and we go under the fort at a temple  where an old man is resting in the sun and some workers have a break. They invite us for a tea and a small piece of opium. Interesting and no expected effects! By a big gate we go down to the city ("Wild woman" is playing with the handlebar of  bike).
Of!

Among the blue houses we wander on streets, enter the courts of the locals with cable plates for birds, small bikes covered for not being burned by bird shit, statues of Shiva colored on houses, visits and pictures in havelis and schools... We go out to a big market and on the left in the crowd we discover a black sweets factory! Unique chance to see this! We make pictures and movies, we participate for production and they can't sell us sweet only in the stores below where everything is so expensive. Of!

We wander on the streets (tobacco leaves on seen, merchants, clothes, metallic pots, shoes)... At one temple on the right Laurence's camera battery is over and I will make some pictures for her.

In some way we reach the Clock Tower market. Laurence is hungry and asks me if I want to eat something. She takes me to a place down to the railway station and we enjoy the food. On small streets parallel to the main crowd street we reach the bazaar, walk around to some friends and buy something with small amount of money (some trousers for me and a skirt long-wished for Laurence) and I have an idea: let's make a fruit salad to the people from the hotel. As a surprise! It suits by chance! We take some fruits (pineapple, mango, papaya, oranges), drink a glass of sugar crane juice (two for me!), look for a towel for Laurence (all are expensive) and go to the hotel. We don't have enough bananas and I go down to take one more pack of bananas. In the restaurant they are hardly working: i'ts the birthday of a friend of the owner! They prepare dal and chapati (a lot of), we take a big bowl and cut the fruits in my room. We hear a "Happy birthday!" and go up on the terrace! It's the moment of a birthday cake and dance! With all the people from the hotel including two shy Portugueses from a separate table! We go down and finish the salad and all are amazed when we go back up with the bowl of salad! We put it in a fridge and it eat later as a dessert! They love it because they are not used to eat this (we are also happy about it and enjoy it). We stay on the terrace and talk about everything in a nice ambient till midnight. Laurence chooses to sleep in the room next to mine for free. They say that the season is almost over!
